SSBC Technology/Media Ministry was an idea of Mary E. Coleman-Harris until the choir held it’s first reunion in June 2007. The vision first started out in the form of a Newsletter. The first Newsletter was published the 4th ‘Sunday in November 2006. After a couple of months, the idea of a website was envisioned. On the back of several issues of the Newsletter, the statement was written, “Website Coming Soon”! After several months of this statement, the statement was removed. But the idea of a website was never removed. Then in June, when the choir celebrated its first “choir reunion”, a person by the name of Herman Harvey, a former member of the choir, decided to attend the reunion- not as a member of the choir….but as a photographer/videographer. And thus the Church Website was born!
The site immediately became a “smash”! Even with limited space, Herman was able to put several pictures and videos of the reunion on the site. The site had visitors as far as Arizona visiting and signing the guest page. In July, God sent us our new pastor, Rev. Darian Blue. The site was then taken to another level with his enthusiasm! Since Rev. Blue is from Florida, he started telling relatives in Florida to check out his new church on the web! Then, on August 12, Mr. Jarrin Jenkins united with the SSBC Family. Mr. Jenkins, a computer specialist in his own right, teamed up with Herman, the person that is responsible for the website being up and running. They started collaborating on ideas and now our site is the most talked about site in the area. We have a $1000 website that didn’t cost the church one cent!
All this was accomplished because of the “technology vision” from Mary E. Coleman-Harris. That vision has since become a reality and the technology/media ministry has been organized into one of the most popular ministries in our church. It’s accomplishments will officially be presented to the church conference at the next meeting.
The SSBC Technology/Media Ministry consists of four members now.
