Pastor's Aide
Ministry
Pastor Aide began under the leadership of Rev. Quincy Key, Jr. and has extended through the services of Rev. Dr. Herbert Tomlin, and our present Pastor, Rev. Darian D. Blue. Until this past year, this was a Ministry of one, Sis. Mattie Nelson.
I began working closely with the Pastors and their wives when I realized there was another job to be done. Before the Pastor took the Pulpit and after he regained his strength from delivering such a powerful message, the behind the scenes duties required a special person; one who would accept the challenge required by God to assist where and when needed. From refreshments, making sure the room is warm in the winter and cool in the summer to providing an extra plate for them to take home. To show appreciation for the Pastor and visiting Pastors, I began giving cards of appreciation and little gifts. And as time went on, they appreciated the kindness.
The job began to require more flexibility with the need for someone to get the details to set up programs, make telephone calls for the Pastor, welcome visiting Pastors to our Church, and follow up with the Pastor once service has been rendered. The Pastor would also ask about members of the Church and when he could not make the visit, I would accept the duty to send cards, make telephone calls during illness, hospital stays, and death.
Working within the areas of Recording Secretary, Finance Secretary, the Choir, our Women Ministry, and the Pastor Aide required many levels of service but only one level of faith. I prayed for the help of Godly Women and God sent two of his finest, Julia Edwards and Jennie Bogan Slaton. In them, I find the joy and compassion of ones who fear God and willingly accepts the challenges of serving in the Ministry of Pastor Aide. We are still doing “God’s Work, God’s Way”.
Great blessings come from joining others in praising and singing to the Lord. The Lord inhabits the praises of his people. (Psalm 22:3)
As God's people come together in worship, we become a powerful force in helping one another and in influencing the entire Church Family. Together we live and rejoice in the "Fruits of the Spirit" for the Blessing of God are many for the Woman of God.
