THE
HISTORY OF
SECOND SHILOH
MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH
Bronwood, GA
The Second Shiloh Baptist Church was organized in the year 1851. The first worship services were held in what was known as “The Bush Harbor”. The Bush Harbor was a structure made of vine and brush. This structure was formed without a roof and church services were held without any protection from the elements of the weather. After the Bush Harbor, the church family decided to build a building to hold their worship services. So a small wooden structure was erected that had one window and one door. It is not known how long the worship services were held in this building.
However, later on land was purchased and a larger church was built. This church site was located about 5 miles south of Bronwood on a dirt road next to what is now known as the Gardners’ Place. The members also constructed this building. This building remained in existence until the year 1920 when it was destroyed by fire.
By the grace of God, a new church was re - built that same year! Services were held in that building from 1920 until 1981. The spiritual history of this church, in that building, is enormous! We know that it was in this wooden building, many prayers were sent up and answered because you can see where our church is today! It was during those years, that most of our older members united in fellowship with Christ. Some of us can remember some of the old songs that were sung by some of our deacons, missionary workers, ushers, choir and other talented members of the congregation!
In the year 1981, the church was moved from that old familiar location out near the “Gardner’s Place” and relocated to the present location where we now worship! Here, in the city limits of Bronwood we also can say that there are fond memories that have remained a part of this congregation. We have been truly blessed since the inception of this congregation back in 1851. Our membership may have dwindled somewhat, but for those of us that still remain we find sweet consolation in knowing that God has truly been on our side! Although the road was not always smooth, but then he said that it would not be! Who are we to complain for any trials and pitfalls that may have come our way? Are we not our Father’s children? Haven’t we learned anything from the many messages we have heard, from the many teachings of our great leaders and forefathers, and from our own innermost feelings? We are all believers in Christ and we know that He will see us through any trial if we trust in him! So, as I journey on to acknowledge some of our leaders, and members, I would like to leave this thought with you. “If God brought us to it, (whatever that it may be in your own personal life), I want you to know that He can also bring us through it!
Since our church was destroyed by fire in 1920 any recorded history was loss in that fire. However, most of our history has been preserved from the memory of our older members and it is now being recorded for future use. So, as we add to our history each year we want to continue to preserve what has been recorded from our older members… Our recorded history for year 2002 is as follows:

This Church has come a long way! But, we still have a long way to go! The church reached a milestone in 1999 when it became debt free! This means that all notes due by the Second Shiloh Baptist Church were paid in full! This church and its members worked hard to achieve that financial goal! Projects were completed and deemed a success and the purchase of stained windows in memory of our deceased love ones were also accomplished! This Church, the first black church in Terrell County, organized a successful Food Bank Program! Our church has seen improvements in areas as installation of a telephone, installation of new lighting system, installation of a new PA system; perform general cleaning sessions of our entire sanctuary, and the addition of a second service on Second Sundays! These services begin at 8 AM with the ringing of the church bell at 7:45 AM! This was a church tradition back in the early days of our church. So, you can say that by ringing the church bell on Second Sunday mornings, we are "going back to the old landmark" when church bells would be ringing through out the community!
In 2007, our church became debt free again after the expansion of the pastor’s study! A couple of weeks ago, the church purchased new microphones for the sanctuary.
This is a very special church! One that you do not find in your midst every day. One that has withstood the “pulling away” of the church that our Bible speaks of! One that is loved so dearly by its newly called pastor, Rev. Darian D. Blue. Rev. Blue has many goals and visions for this congregation. He is a hard working leader with a family of 7, with 5 being children. However, he still finds the time to be concerned about his church family. He spends every Wednesday evening at the church to meet and counsel members that may be going through. He visits the sick and shut in…he visits other churches and he is a “beacon” to this community! His goal for our church in 2008 is “Maximizing our Ministries”! He wants our church to take all that we do to another level in the Lord! This church and her new pastor have brought 14 sheep into the fold in the 3 short months Pastor Blue has been Shepherd! Pastor Blue accepted the challenge of leading this small congregation of people and has done it with praise, joy and thanksgiving! This Church: A very special church indeed!
So, as we close another chapter in the history of our church, we ask for the prayers of each of you that come and worship with us that you continue to pray for our church leader and our church family! Please stand with me today, as we claim the victory in the name of Jesus as we pray together this prayer; Heavenly Father, as we petition you this day, please keep us on the right path. Father we pray, as we struggle and strive to do Your Work, Your Way, we ask that you guide us and lead us in all that we say and do, in Jesus Name We Do Pray, AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!
